Climate Overview
Grumeti experiences pleasant temperatures, although summers can be hot and humid. The seasons can vary from year to year, however, and if rains do not fall when expected, the cyclical movement of wildebeest and other herbivores is influenced.

Rainfall: Rainfall is seasonal. The dry season usually extends from June to October. The so-called "short rains" come in November and December. This is followed by another dry spell in January and February. The "long rains" come from March to May. The average annual rainfall at Grumeti is 800mm to 1 000mm.

Temperature: Temperatures in the western corridor of the Serengeti are generally warmer than in the eastern Serengeti and may rise above 36°C/97°F. Summers can be hot and humid. Generally, temperatures are pleasant, rarely rising above 32°C/90°F. September, October and January are the warmest months. Temperatures rarely drop below 10°C/50°F. July is usually the coolest month.

Altitude: Grumeti is about 1 200m above sea level .

Best time to travel
There is excellent game viewing throughout the year. The best time to see the migration and crocodiles in action is June, July and August - these months fall in the dry season.
