Interesting SIGHTINGS

Lion Kills at Exeter
The Lion prides at Exeter have been on a killing spree in the last few weeks - demonstrating their powerful authority as the mighty 'kings of the jungle'. According to ranger sightings, not only has a single male taken down a giraffe all on his own, but one of the Exeter prides has recently taken down a white rhino - a surprising, yet substantial meal for the four! This comes after reports from rangers that the two prides on Exeter may well be looking for trouble as they challenge each other's prized territory. Keep Updated…

Book REVIEW

Elephantoms - Tracking the Elephant - Lyall Watson
Elephantoms, provides another amazing adventure story where he describes how, through an enchanted childhood and a lucky adulthood, he has been haunted by elephants. Watson's book takes readers on an insightful journey through his youth in South Africa and his later years studying elephant history and zoology. Filled with metaphorical tales and fables, Watson's Elephantoms will enchant readers who are not too cynical of his prolifically unusual writing style.

Wildlife UPDATES

New baby Black Rhino born on Phinda
Another conservation first was celebrated at Phinda Private Game Reserve, South Africa in April 2007, with the first black rhino from the WWF Black Rhino Range Expansion Project conceived and born on the Reserve. This news caused much excitement, as the project's aim was to increase the number of endangered black rhinos living in the KwaZulu-Natal area by relocating animals to conservation areas. The proud mother was introduced to Phinda in 2004, and is the first member of the project to have conceived and given birth to a calf in her new home. The night before the birth, one of Phinda's staff members had a dream that the rhino had given birth, prompting him to go searching for the animal. To the delight of the entire team, the mother was found nursing her new calf.

The birth of this endangered animal is an incredibly proud moment for all at CC Africa, as we continue to break through conservation history!

Successful Serval Re-introduction at Phinda
CC Africa is delighted to announce the successful release of eight servals onto Phinda Private Game Reserve in South Africa's KwaZulu-Natal. These felines were brought in from the Moholoholo Rehabilitation Centre (near Hoedspruit in the Limpopo Province) in November 2006 in an effort to increase the density of this once-hunted species back onto the Reserve. This also provides CC Africa's guests with a better chance of viewing these elusive cats whilst on game drive.
